Karl is an ‘almost’ lifer of Chapel Hill, arriving at age 4 months and aside from a year living abroad after graduating from UNC, has lived in the area. He began playing tennis at age 6 and played competitively as a junior throughout the southeast. After a 20-year hiatus, Karl picked up his racket and has yet to put it down. He plays year-round on teams in USTA, WTT, and in his club league, as well as socially and competitively with his ‘tennis family’.
In addition to playing, Karl has also been a certified USTA, ITA and ITF official, supervising tournament matches from U6 novice players up to ATP top ten players. Karl was also a college official.
Wanting to give back to the sport, Karl has also been a volunteer for many years at the ACC Tennis Tournament as well as the Atlantic Tire Championship held at Cary Tennis Park. Karl was Volunteer Coordinator for the ATC event for two years.
Karl has his own tennis racket stringing business called Advantage Stringing, LLC, and he has been part of the EMPACT team since 2019. EMPACT uses Karl for all our racket stringing needs.
