Curtis Lawson

Curtis Lawson Jr. grew up in a tennis family and has been playing tennis since he was old enough to hold a racket. His father, Curtis Lawson Sr. was a high-level player in many state-level leagues and has been the head coach for the men’s NCCU Eagles tennis team for many years – so Curt grew up on a tennis court.

As a youth player, Curt himself worked his way up through USTA tournaments and played for his middle and high school teams. In his junior year, he went all-conference for singles and doubles and senior year went all-conference for doubles. He earned a scholarship position at NCCU but chose to follow another passion and became a professional skateboarder for several years, before returning to his hometown of Durham, NC.

Tennis continues to be a passion for Coach Curt and enjoys teaching and inspiring others to learn this game that will bring years of fun physical activity and joy. He has been coaching with EMPACT Tennis since the spring of 2020. He enjoys working with athletes of all ages and skill levels but feels like he makes the greatest impact when he works with youth athletes.
